Terms of Service

Gmatri (“Gmatri”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a Tamil-first South Indian matrimony service operated from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a binding agreement between you and Gmatri and govern your access to and use of our website, mobile applications, and related services (together, the “Service”).

By creating an account, signing in with a one-time password, or otherwise using the Service, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

You must be at least 18 years of ageand legally competent to enter into a marriage under the laws applicable to you to create an account or use the Service. The Service is intended for individuals seeking matrimony for themselves, or for a parent, sibling, or close relative creating a profile on behalf of an eligible adult with that person’s knowledge and consent.

You confirm that you are not prohibited from using the Service under any applicable law, and that the information you provide about yourself (or the person whose profile you manage) is true, accurate, and current.

Accounts are created and accessed using your mobile phone number and a one-time password (OTP) sent by SMS. You are responsible for keeping access to your phone number and device secure. Anyone who can receive your OTP can access your account, so never share your OTP with another person — Gmatri staff will never ask you for it.

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Please notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your authorisation.

You agree to use the Service honestly, respectfully, and for genuine matrimonial purposes only. You must not:

• Create a fake, impersonated, or misleading profile, or provide false information about identity, age, marital status, community, or horoscope details.
• Harass, threaten, abuse, stalk, defame, or intimidate any other user, or send unwelcome, sexually explicit, or offensive content.
• Solicit money, gifts, donations, investments, or financial information from other users, or engage in any fraudulent, deceptive, or commercial activity.
• Use the Service for any purpose other than seeking a marriage partner — including dating-only, escort, or matchmaking-for-hire activity not sanctioned by us.
• Scrape, crawl, harvest, copy, or store profiles, photos, contact details, or other content using bots, automated scripts, or any unauthorised means.
• Upload viruses, malware, or attempt to interfere with, disrupt, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the Service or its systems.
• Post content that is unlawful, hateful, discriminatory, obscene, or that infringes the rights of any third party.
• Share another user’s private information, photos, or conversations outside the Service without their consent.

We may remove content, restrict features, or suspend or terminate accounts that we reasonably believe violate these Terms, without prior notice where necessary to protect users or the Service.

You retain ownership of the profile information, text, photographs, voice intros, and other content you submit (“User Content”). You are solely responsible for your User Content and confirm that you have the right to share it and that it does not violate the rights of any other person.

By submitting User Content, you grant Gmatri a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt (for example, resizing or generating thumbnails), and display that content for the limited purpose of operating, securing, and providing the Service to you and to relevant matches — subject to your privacy and visibility settings. Profile photos remain private by default and are only revealed in line with the controls you choose. This licence ends when you delete the relevant content or your account, except for copies retained for a reasonable period in backups or as required by law.

We may use automated tools and human review to moderate photos and other content for safety and policy compliance.

Gmatri is a platform that helps you discover and connect with prospective matches. We do not guarantee that you will find a partner, receive interests, get married, or achieve any particular outcome. We do not vouch for the identity, intentions, character, conduct, marital status, or suitability of any user, and we are not a party to any interaction, relationship, engagement, or marriage that may result from using the Service.

Please exercise your own judgement and take ordinary precautions when communicating with or meeting other users. Verification badges, where shown, indicate that certain checks were performed but are not a warranty of a person’s identity or honesty.

Porutham (10-fold) compatibility scores, nakshatra and rasi details, dosham indications, and chart information are generated using astronomical calculations and traditional South Indian conventions. They are provided for cultural and informational guidance only and reflect long-standing customs — they are not, and must not be relied upon as, professional, medical, legal, financial, or relationship advice.

Results depend on the accuracy of the birth date, time, and place you provide and may vary from those computed by your family astrologer or priest. Any optional paid astrologer consultations offered through the Service represent the views of independent practitioners, not Gmatri. Decisions about marriage are yours and your family’s to make.

Core matchmaking, porutham on every match, and chat are free. Certain optional features (such as premium plans or astrologer consultations) may be offered for a fee, with pricing shown before purchase. Fees are quoted in Indian Rupees and, unless stated otherwise or required by law, payments are non-refundable once a service has been delivered. We may change our pricing or feature set from time to time.

The Service, including its design, software, text, graphics, logos (including the குருஜி Gmatri mark), and the porutham computation engine, is owned by Gmatri or its licensors and is protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Except for your own User Content, you may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Service without our prior written permission.

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Gmatri disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Gmatri and its directors, employees, and partners will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your interactions with other users, your reliance on porutham or profile information, or your use of (or inability to use) the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or to protect users or the integrity of the Service. On termination, the rights granted to you under these Terms end, though some provisions (such as content licences for backups, disclaimers, and limitations of liability) survive by their nature.

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the Service. Your continued use after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.

These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Subject to any non-waivable rights you may have, you and Gmatri agree that the courts at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service.
